CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Two teenagers are facing burglary charges after police said they were caught on camera burglarizing a marijuana dispensary and a vape shop early Wednesday morning.

Officials with the University of Illinois Police Department, which had jurisdiction over the area, said their officers were dispatched to Sunnyside Cannabis Dispensary at 1704 South Neil Street for a security alarm going off at 1:42 a.m. At about the same time, another alarm was triggered at Global Smoke and Vape a block away from the dispensary.

Working quickly with Sunnyside’s manager to access video footage, officials said officers got a description of two suspects, who were located along the railroad tracks within 15 minutes. One of the suspects was identified as Michael Newsome, 18 of Champaign; the other’s identity was withheld due to them being underage.

Officials said there was some property damage to both businesses. Several products stolen from Global Smoke and Vape were found and returned to the store.
