LOUISVILLE, Ky. — During a committee meeting on Tuesday, Metro Council members looked into where medical marijuana can be grown and sold in Jefferson County.

Kentucky banned dispensaries within 1,000 feet of a school or childcare facility.

But the council can add prohibited locations, like near parks or churches.

While they tabled the policy because members still had questions, they are facing a time crunch. The licensing period for the new businesses begins on July 1.

Without the regulations passed, those locations cannot be selected.

The business licenses are based on a lottery selection. In Jefferson County, only two dispensary locations will be granted licenses.

On Monday, a Jefferson County Board of Education Policy committee approved regulations for how to handle medical marijuana for students in school buildings.
