NEW BUFFALO TWP., Mich. (WSBT) — Four marijuana dispensaries got the green light Tuesday night in New Buffalo Township.
The Planning Commission giving the first of many approvals needed before the businesses can set up shop.
This approval comes after the township stopped accepting new marijuana applications, with a one-year moratorium. Officials say that these four applications, along with numerous others were submitted by Monday’s application deadline.

The commission recommended all four be approved, but this is just the first step in the process.

“They have to go through approval with various with various different government entities, and then they’ll come back to the township board for final approval once those things are complete,” said Michelle Hannon, New Buffalo Township Clerk.
In total there are 47 applications that have been submitted and will be reviewed by the planning commissions.
Some in the community are concerned about the large number, one woman saying she thinks that the township has other needs to address instead of marijuana dispensaries .
