Florida state employees will get an extra day off for 4th of July weekend

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — State offices will be closed in Florida on July 5 in addition to July 4, according to a news release from the office of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In a statement, DeSantis said he hoped state workers would take the extra time off “to enjoy Florida’s Freedom Summer with their loved ones and celebrate America.”

“I am proud to reward our state employees,” DeSantis said. “Following another historic legislative session that delivered tax breaks and record investments for Floridians—all while reducing spending.”

The closure creates a four day weekend for the nearly 100,000 employees in the State Personnel System, the news release said.
