Family of man with special needs worried about his future after trust money vanishes

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The family of a man with special needs counted on a St. Petersburg nonprofit to safeguard money for his care, but now that money is missing, and they don’t know if they’ll ever get it back.

The Rollins family is one of a number of families we’ve heard from. They told 8 On Your Side they counted on the Center for Special Needs Trust Administration in St. Petersburg to protect their son Matthew’s money.

Donna Rollins said Matthew is one of her family’s greatest achievements. He was born prematurely at 26 weeks. He needs a lot of love and support every day in his Apple Valley, California home.

Matthew now 22 years old, is on oxygen, has cerebral palsy and is physically unable to leave a wheelchair.

“Matthew is a 24-hour job,” she said. “He is very active in our community. We have a nurse which comes in each day and helps me during the day.”
